I logged in and there were about fifty billion messages and deviations. It's totally not a measure of my love for you that I deleted them all instead of going through them all -- but I'll try and keep up now. Not that, you know, you were probably expecting to see me here again, anyway.
I never was much of an artist. I haven't looked at any of my art for almost two years (well, except the Moralicide page that is sitting on my drafting table under a layer of dust... speaking of which, I'm about to move into a much smaller room, so I should probably figure out if I use the table enough to justify keeping it, crap). Well. Some of what's still in this account was drawn in 2004 or so, but the newer stuff is probably still about what my drawing ability would be if I were still working at it now. Unless, of course, my drawing brain atrophied - always possible. I thought about getting rid of more of the older stuff, but then I got terribly nostalgic.
Where have I been? Busy, mostly.
I finished my physics and linguistics degrees, although now I'm planning to take some post-bac classes and eventually go to graduate school for some sort of more squishy science, like genetics. This means that I will be something like ANCIENT before I get my PhD, but I intend on living forever anyway.
I've been writing! And by this, I mean, moving well past the day-dreamy "someday I shall be a writer" nonsense most of you remember me doing. Sadly, none of it has involved the oft-fanarted crowd of characters that populates my favorites section. This is where the nostalgia and weirdness comes in. I remember being the sort of person who thought that a writing career might happen "someday" as if it were like winning the lottery and completely divorced from what I was doing with my time.
Nope. It really is just sweat, tears, and carpal tunnel.
I attended Clarion in 2008 and learned from some awesome writers. (Kelly Link, James Patrick Kelly, Mary Anne Mohanraj, Neil Gaiman, Nalo Hopkinson and Geoff Ryman.)
Since then, I have started selling stories. I have two that are currently published,
"Machine Washable" in Sybil's Garage no. 6
"Advertising at the End of the World" in Apex Magazine.
I also have stories forthcoming in the following magazines:
"Bone Dice" in Talebones #39
"Shoes Worn Once" in Electric Velocipede (issue TBA)
"Daha's Son" in Fantasy Magazine
I'm currently working on:
a) More short stories! I sold most of what I had out on submission, so I need to get back on that and get more stuff out the door and in the hands of editors.
b) A novel. OoooOOOOOooooh. Epic fantasy, very long, full of pain, misery and explosions.
c) Moralicide script. No. Seriously. What. Just because it hasn't updated since the stegosaurus was alive doesn't mean I don't still want to. Look, someday I might surprise you all and update regularly. YOU NEVER KNOW.
Anyway. Hi again.
Yeah, yeah.
